“Rastamentary” is a documentary made up of a series of interviews and shots put together to gain an understanding of the Rastafarian culture and belief.

In searching for the meaning of a “Rastafarian”, I discovered that Rastafarians are a very diverse and often greatly misjudged group. Much of what I thought I knew was based on rumor, speculation, and ignorance.

In order to present this information objectively, this video includes differing and sometimes opposing opinions to give a balanced perspective.

Rastafarian belief is based on the same Biblical scripture that is studied by other Judeo-Christian followers. What separates Rastafarians from those who are labelled “Christian” is the belief that the son of God; Jesus Christ, has returned in the form of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Haile Selassie, coronated in Ethiopia in 1930. This is the single belief that is the common thread of all Rastafarian people.

As we interview individuals that follow this belief, it is apparent that this outlook affects many aspects of their lives through the strong opinions they hold on various issues.

Rastamentary” seeks to present an objective glimpse into the Rastafarian culture by speaking with some of its followers and discussing how they came to this belief, and the effects it has on many aspects of their lives. This documentary also takes a look at their shared and sometimes opposing opinions.

“Rastamentary” was shot in Toronto, Canada as well as St. Andrew, and Kingston, Jamaica.
